Karnataka checks Hindu outfits’ decibel duel | India News

Must read

MYSURU/MANGALURU/BENGALURU: Some pro-Hindu fringe outfits launched a campaign across the state on Monday against what they called “unauthorised use of loudspeakers in mosques“. Members of these outfits attempted to play the Hanuman Chalisa, Suprabhata and other devotional songs over loudspeakers in temples on Monday, but police foiled such moves in most areas.
At some temples, recorded bhajans were played at 5 am to counter the morning azaan. The fringe outfits accused the government of “failing” to remove loudspeakers installed in mosques. Karnataka CM Basvaraj Bommai directed officials to ensure strict implementation of the SC orders on the use of loudspeakers in mosques. “There are Supreme Court orders on the azaan use that applies to everyone and must be strictly enforced in a very cordial environment. There are also high court orders regarding how to implement the apex court orders. I have instructed officials to strictly implment it,” Bommai told reporters. State home minister Araga Jnanendra said strict action would be taken in accordance with the court’s orders to control any activity that causes noise pollution.
Stray incidents were reported at temples in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Yadgir, Mandya and Kolar, besides other districts. In some places, police detained activists.
Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik said their campaign is against the government and the “adamant” Muslim community.
In Mangaluru, devotional songs were played from a temporary shed built by Ayyappa devotees about 250 metres from a masjid in Moodushedde, in Kavoor police station limits. City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said police were “looking into the case”. In Bengaluru, city police detained 16 Sri Rama Sene members when they attempted to play bhajans over loudspeakers at Anjaneya temple in Viveknagar. Police also sent away a few devotees at Someshwara temple in Ulsoor.
